Finest end of year for Life LEMA

II Experts Workshop of Life LEMA.

Autumn began with the II Experts Workshop of Life LEMA on October 4th and since then we have been involved in lots of marine litter events and campaigns. In addition, our explanatory videos about the different parts of the project were finally released, and we have been disseminating them on our social networks (FBTW and IG) and on this website every Wednesday.

On October 15th we finished the OSPAR 2018 Autumn Campaign, where together with volunteers we carried out marine litter collections in different beaches of Gipuzkoa. These campaigns are carried out 4 times a year in the same three beaches and they help us quantify and categorize the marine litter that reaches the coasts of the Bay of Biscay. On this occasion, the volunteers came from Zumaiena Ikastetxea from Zumaia and Mutriku BHI and Nagusilan from Mutriku. To thank them for their support the Territorial Council of Gipuzkoa and Surfrider Spain organized the 2018 Volunteer Festival that was held within the framework of the United Nations International Volunteer Day (December 5th) and where we showed the results of the OSPAR 2018 Campaign (video of the event). Once again we thank you for your commitment to the project and to the environment.

We have also attended several events related to the problem of marine litter. On November 26th we were in the CONAMA (Spanish National Environment Congress), the “environmental event of reference in Spain”, where we presented the progress of the project in the working group on marine litter. We also participated in the course “Adaptation of fisheries to climate change. How can it be promoted by administrations?” within the framework of the Life Clinomics project on December 4th in Sitges (Barcelona), where we talked about Life LEMA and its relationship with the fishing sector. Also, on December 11 we participated in the International Workshop of the Litter Drone project, which presented its final results in the Ministry for the Ecological Transition of Spain (MITECO).
